DAG move to The Lighthouse - 'Scottish workforce can be world beaters' says Wendy Alexander

Wendy Alexander today re-affirmed her position that focussing on skills and creativity can deliver a Scottish workforce that can compete with the best in the world.

The Enterprise Minister was in Glasgow's Lighthouse building to open the new headquarters of Digital Animations Group. The company have pioneered digital content in the form of such virtual characters as Ananova and Seonaid - the face of the Scottish Executive website.

Speaking at the opening, Ms Alexander said:

"Digital Animations Group have quite clearly stated that they want to be world leaders in the field of digital content and virtual characters. In setting up base in Scotland, the company are saying that the local workforce has the skills and the creativity to help them achieve their aim.

"The future economic success of Scotland will depend on the creativity and skills of the people of Scotland. If we can continue to nurture expertise in high technology areas, then we can compete with the best in the world."

The Minister continued:

"The Scottish Executive is committed to building a smart, successful Scotland based on a strategy of science and skills. In doing this we are creating the basis for prosperity, competitiveness and sustained growth.

"Digital content, as pioneered by companies such as Digital Animations, will be a real growth area. I am delighted that the company has chosen Glasgow to be the base for their global plans.

"I wish them every success."
